Baramati MP Supriya Sule
PUNE: Baramati MP Supriya Sule has thrown her weight behind the demand to extend the Pimpri-Swargate Metro rail route.
Similar demands have already been made by various political leaders and citizens' groups to extend the route to Nigdi, Chakan, Hadapsar and Katraj.
Now Sule has added her voice to the chorus, seeking the extension of Metro services from Swargate to Khadakwasla in a letter to chief minister Devendra Fadnavis. In the letter, Sule has requested the chief minister to initiate steps to prepare a detailed project report (DPR) for the extension.
She further wrote that many tourists use Sinhagad Road to visit various historical forts and tourist spots, which causes congestion in the entire area, inconveniencing residents and daily commuters. "A Metro line from Swaragte to Khadakwasla would reduce such hardship. A provision of Metro junction at Khadakwasla would also be ideal," Sule said in the letter.
Khadakwasla and adjacent regions come under Sule's Baramati constituency. Located on city's periphery, Khadakwasla has witnessed significant growth in the last few years, in terms of residential and commercial projects. Work on the Metro rail work has been initiated on two corridors in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad, while work on the third line - between Shivajinagar and Hinjewadi - will likely begin in the near future.Steps have also been initiated to prepare DPR for the proposed Metro routes towards Nigdi and Katraj.https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/pune/mp-supriya-sule-pushes-for-route-extension-to-khadakwasla/articleshow/63908794.cms?utm_source=twitter.com&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=TOIPune
