Velhe tehsil of Baramati Lok Sabha Constituency is full of hilly areas, rivers, streams, forests and nature. The fisrt fort captured Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, the Torna fort where he established Swarajya and the Maratha Empire, as well as Rajgad Fort, the first capital of Swarajya, both are situated in this tehsil. Shivaji Maharaj ruled from Rajgad for almost 25 years. Rajgad was known to be the fort that defeated the enemy without a battle and captivated all with its beauty. For this reason, MP Supriya Sule is demanding and is wholeheartedly pursuing the renaming of Velhe tehsil as Rajgad. Saibai, mother of the second Chhatrapati of Swarajya, Sambhaji Maharaj breathed her last on this fort. Her memorial is built on this fort and its repair work is currently being undertaken by the government. MP Supriya Sule's efforts and follow-up in this regard has been successful and Maharani Saibai's memorial will soon be built into an incredible architecture.
The road to the fort passes through two villages Gunjawane and Pali. During the time of Shivaji Maharaj, the road passing through Pali village was the main road, which is why the Pali Darwaza of the fort is on that side. At present the visitors prefer to go through Gunjawane village at the base of the fort and through the Chor Darwaza to reach the main fort. After going up through this door, one reaches the Padmavati Machi which has a beautiful historical Padmavati temple and in front of it is the Samadhi of Maharani Saibai. Apart from these historic sites of the fort, two water tanks, the memorial, and the temple, there is a shed built by the Zilla Parishad, where all the visitors take a break. Going forward there are three places namely Balekilla, Suvela Machi and Sanjeevani Machi. Scholars from all over the country visit the fort to see the fortified wall and the armored bastions used in defense. All of this can be seen at Sanjeevani Machi.
